It’s the first new pub to open in Chelsea in a hundred and fifty years, yet it somehow manages to feel as though it has always been there. Clean and contemporary, yes, but still properly quaint—the kind of place that carries the weight of the building rather than fighting it. I believe it was once a bank, and the bones show: solid architecture, high ceilings, that quiet sense of history you don’t often get in anything that opened after the war.

We went for Sunday roast, and it was excellent. The beef was one of the better versions I’ve had—properly cooked, properly rested, nothing fussy. The potatoes were high quality (not the absolute best I’ve tasted, but firmly in the top tier), and the root vegetables were genuinely outstanding. I had the mint sauce as well; it tasted fresh and sharp, the way it should. I don’t eat Yorkshire pudding myself, but the table next to us did, and the consensus was that it was excellent.

The wine list is well chosen, the beer is good, and the service was exactly what you want—attentive without hovering. The room itself has a pleasant energy. From our table we could watch people coming out of Chelsea Town Hall after their weddings; we counted at least three newlywed couples while we ate. It’s oddly charming.

I’d recommend it without hesitation. Expect to spend about £40–50 a head. The noise level is moderate—lively but not loud. It works for most group sizes, and there’s indoor seating, a proper bar area, and a private dining room if you need one. Vegetarians will find clearly labelled options and can manage fine, though it isn’t the place for a fully vegetarian table. Dietary requirements are handled easily. Parking is essentially nonexistent, so take a cab or the Tube. Children are welcome, but it isn’t a child-oriented spot. Wheelchair access is straightforward.

In short: go for the roast, stay for the room, and enjoy the occasional wedding procession outside.

Book A Table

Find Trafalgar

Subscribe now

Share
